Ignition system - the general information and safety measures

On models considered in the present Management two types of systems of ignition are used: system of contactless ignition with the distributor and without that - system of direct ignition (DIS).

Systems of contactless ignition with the distributor

The contactless system of ignition equips l models 1.5, 1.8 l 1993 by 1996 of вып., 2.0 l SOHC, 2.4 l SOHC 1994 1998 of вып., 3.0 l SOHC and 3.5 l. Management of an ignition advancing in such systems carries out the special electronic block (ECU). On l models 1.5, 1.8 l, 2.4 l and 3.5 l the coil of ignition and the key transistor are built in in the distributor case, on models 2.0 of l SOHC and 3.0 l SOHC the given elements are established separately.

At inclusion of ignition pressure of the battery moves on a primary winding of the coil of ignition. At rotation of a shaft of the distributor alarm impulses from the onboard processor (PCM) are told to the key transistor of system of ignition, that leads to periodic short circuit of the negative plug of a primary winding of the coil (through the transistor) on weight. As a result of such interruptions in a secondary contour of the coil it is induced ВВ the pressure transferred to spark plugs of corresponding cylinders and providing timely ignition of an air-fuel mix in them.

System of direct ignition (DIS)

The system of ignition of the given type is used on l models 1.6, 1.8 l 1997 by 2000 of вып., 2.0 l DOHC, 2.4 l SOHC since 1999 вып., 2.4 l DOHC and 3.0 l DOHC. Management of an ignition advancing here carries out, as before, ECU or the onboard processor (PCM).

Into system structure enter the gauge of a corner of turn/position of a cranked shaft (CKP) on which signals the management module traces current position of pistons. Analyzing the information arriving from gauge CKP, ECU/PCM defines current frequency of rotation of the engine and exercises administration of injection and ignition of an air-fuel mix in cylinders. One more component of system is gauge VMT informing the module of management passage by each of pistons of position of the top dead point of the step of compression. The information arriving from gauge VMT is used by the module at sequence definition (and frequencies) injection.

At inclusion of ignition pressure of the battery moves on a primary winding of the coil of ignition. Signals arriving from gauge CKP will be transformed by the management module to operating impulses of ignition and transferred to the key transistor. The transistor provides regular short circuit of the negative plug of a primary winding of the coil on weight in which result in a secondary contour of the coil pressure transferred to spark plugs ВВ is induced.

At service of systems of direct ignition it is necessary to observe special safety measures:

a) If the engine is not started, do not hold the ignition key continuously turned in position ON within more than 10 seconds on end;
b) Watch, that tachometre connection was carried out strictly according to instructions of manufacturers, - some of let out measuring instruments can not approach for use on the given models;
c) At all do not suppose grounding of contact plugs of coils of ignition on weight, - the slightest imprudence in this question can lead to an exit of components of system out of operation;
d) do not disconnect the battery at the working engine;
e) Watch correctness of grounding of components.
