1. Failure of the water pump is capable to cause the most serious consequences, up to full jamming of the engine as a result of an overheat. The defective pump is subject to replacement.
2. Warm up the engine to normal working temperature and, not suppressing it, compress a hand the top hose of a radiator, - if at отпускании a hose in it the liquid push is distinctly felt, hence, the water pump functions regularly.

3. The water pump is equipped by a control/ventilating aperture. In case of failure of an epiploon from an aperture the cooling liquid starts to exude. Prepare a pocket small lamp and a small pocket mirror, - the aperture is located from below on the pump case, is direct under an assemblage axis. Presence round an aperture of adjournment of brownish colour testifies to malfunction of an epiploon, - easy decolouration of a surface (a ring of light grey colour) should not cause anxiety.
4. At failure of bearings of a shaft of the pump in an engine operating time in its forward part there can be a howling sound which should not be confused to the whistle published приводным by a belt at easing of effort of its tension. Deterioration of the bearing can be revealed on presence люфта at rocking of a nave/shaft of the pump (do not forget to switch off before the engine and to throw off from a pulley a belt).
5. Even in the absence of external signs of deterioration the definitive conclusion about a condition of the water pump can be made only after its removal and more detailed studying.
